On-line Centralized Database
in the Diocese of Pittsburgh As you are aware, the Diocese of
Pittsburgh is committed to providing a safe environment for everyone entrusted
to our care. The newly established Office for the Protection of Children and
Young People is now preparing to take the next step in that continuing effort. In
order to comply with the requirements of the USCCB’s Charter for the Protection
of Children and Young People, Bishop Bradley has approved the creation of
an on-line centralized database in the diocese. Anyone, including both paid
and volunteer staff (parents, coaches, lunch volunteers, chaperones
etc.) on the school level that have direct contact with minors (under 18 years
old) will be mandated to complete an on-line application that
will include a national criminal background check. This application process
began on Friday, June 1st. It is mandated that
if you plan on volunteering anytime with student programs in the school or
field trips including the Sports Program & Lunch Program for the 2007 –
2008 academic year you MUST complete this on-line application
ASAP. Information needed to complete this on-line application was
attached with the June 1, 2007 parent newsletter. If you are in need of another
copy of the directions just contact the school office. The fee is $7 for
each application completed to be paid by the school. The school computer lab is available for anyone not having
Internet service at their house or needing assistance. Just call to make arrangements. Every
parent MUST fill out this application. The application process will
only have to be done once and will take approximately 15-20 minutes to
complete. For the Protection of our Children and for our continued
efforts to provide a safe environment for our children, take time to complete
this application TODAY.

from the Allegheny County Department of Emergency Services and school parent.

Italian Ice. What a great way to kick-off the 2007 – 2008 academic year.

only 2 choices.

opportunity to explain your child’s schedule, their own homework policy, and
classroom expectations. Mark your calendar now and remember this is the first

School Value for the 2007 -
2008 Academic Year Every academic year each Catholic School chooses a gospel value to work on as a school. This year Bishop McDowell Regional School has chosen Faith. Throughout the 2007 – 2008 academic year we will focus
on the gospel value of faith through our liturgies and prayer services along
with our continued efforts in the area of service, both locally and globally. The
main bulletin board on the third floor of the school building will relate to
the gospel value of faith each month. Also, the 8th Grade HOPE
Team is working on providing a number of service projects for the entire
school community to work on throughout the year. Look for details in future
newsletters.
Car Rider Notes
It is important that parents send in notes stating that your child will be a
car rider for the day, week, month or year. This helps us greatly during
dismissal time and causes less confusion. Send this note to your child’s
homeroom teacher and the school office will receive it in the morning
attendance folder. Also, last minute calls to the office at the end of the day
can sometimes cause confusion or even be forgotten. Things do tend to get busy
at that time of the day. Remember to write a note and by following this policy
it will help to make dismissal run smoothly. Thank you for your cooperation and
continued support of Bishop McDowell Regional School

Busing Problems
It is very important that all parents report busing problems to the school
office. We in turn will call the bus garage in question, report the incident
and come to some resolution. Also, it is important to note that at the
beginning of any school year there are a number of busing issues that need to
be worked out. Sometimes it may take as long as one month before things settle
down. Your patience in this matter will help to facilitate a positive working
relationship between the bus garages and the school. Thank you for your
cooperation.
