Bishop McDowell Regional School 50/50 Holiday Raffle Fundraiser So far we have sold 430 tickets this means $215.00
to the winner. We need to continue to build the winnings up quickly
so it will be enticing to others as we continue to sell. So get your tickets
and money in early. Don’t hesitate to call the office for more tickets. The
drawing will be held on Monday, December 31st at 11am in the school lobby. Last years winner received $1,059.00, keep selling. A
reminder that 10 tickets were attached with the November 16th
parent newsletter, your help in selling all 10 is greatly appreciated.
7th Annual Bishop McDowell Regional School Trim-a-Tree Join us for one of our favorite
traditions at Bishop McDowell Regional School on Friday evening December 7, 2007 at 7pm on the school grounds and main floor of the
school building. In the spirit of giving this Christmas season, we will be
donating gifts to the Womensplace of Pittsburgh. The school will be making
up gift bags to send to the women, any beauty items you can donate would be
appreciated, (shampoo, perfume, lotions, etc.). Send these items to school by Thursday,
December 6th. The children's unwrapped gifts can be brought the
night of the Trim-a-Tree event. If you are unable to attend you can send your
gift to school. Thank you to everyone who can help brighten a child's

Pizza Hut Fundraiser Day On Thursday, December 13th at the Brentwood
Towne Center Pizza Hut, Bishop McDowell Regional School will have a
fundraiser day. Just bring the coupons that were attached with the
November 16th parent newsletter to Pizza Hut that day and Pizza Hut
will donate 20% of your purchase to the school. As an added
bonus---buy your Pizza Hut certificates at the school or after mass and use
them to pay for your pizza that day, you will get credit towards your tuition
as well!!! See

December Market Day Orders
All December Market Day order forms are due to the school office on Monday, December 3, 2007. Internet orders are due by noon on Thursday, December 6, 2007. Pick up is scheduled for Wednesday, December 12, 2007 from 6pm - 7pm in the Cafeteria of
the school building. As always we are in need of volunteers to help on Market
Day, consider giving 1or 2-hours. If you would like to volunteer or have any
questions call the school office at (412) 884 – 5676.
2007 SARRIS Christmas Candy
Pick-up The Sarris Christmas Candy Pick-up is scheduled for Wednesday,
December 12, 2007 from 2:30pm – 4pm and 6pm – 7pm in the School Office. If you have any other questions concerning pick-up,
contact Kathy Moeslein at (412) 885 – 5628. Once again thank you

Bishop McDowell Regional
School Sports Picture Day Sports Picture Day has
been scheduled for Sunday afternoon December 2, 2007 beginning at 1pm in the Bishop McDowell Regional School building. The Sports Picture
Day schedule & order form was sent home on Tuesday, November 27, 2007. Extra picture order forms will be available on Sunday. If you have any

School Mass The
students in Grades K - 8 will attend Mass on Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at 1:30pm as we begin our Advent journey. The 8th
grade students will minister at this Mass. As always the entire school
community is welcome to attend.
Marketing and Communications
Committee Meeting On Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at 7pm the Marketing and Communications
Committee will meet in Mr. Grgurich’s office
to discuss further implementation of the 2007-2008 Marketing and Communications
Plan. The main topic of discussion will be finalizing plans for Catholic
Schools Week 2008.
Activities
Committee Meeting There will be an Activities
Committee Meeting on Wednesday, December 5, 2007at 9am in the Cafeteria of the school building. The Activities Committee will make final
plans for the Trim-a-Tree Event scheduled for Friday, December 7, 2007 and plan the Faculty Christmas Luncheon for Friday, December 14, 2007. More details about this event will be posted in a future newsletter. All committee members are
asked to make this meeting a priority and as usual new members are always
welcome.

Santa Lunch Our annual Santa Lunch is scheduled for Saturday, December 8, 2007 from 12pm – 3pm in the Bishop McDowell
Regional School Cafeteria. Come join us for lunch, ice cream sundaes,
raffles, door prizes, crafts and a visit from Santa. All tickets will be $8
a person and are still available for purchase. For additional information call Lisa

December 8th.

Santa Christmas Shop The Bishop McDowell Regional School Santa Christmas Shop will begin on Monday, December 3, 2007 with the school sale concluding on Friday, December 7, 2007. Items will be priced
from approximately $10.00 and under. A schedule of when each class is
going to shop and a volunteer form to help students to shop was sent home on Wednesday, November 28, 2007. For additional information about the Santa
Christmas Shop contact Wendy Wrubleski at (412) 881 – 1688.
December Scrip Orders
The last Scrip Orders for December will be taken on Wednesday,
December 12th. They must be turned into the school
office by 10am. It would be in your best interest to order your
certificates as early as possible. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Bishop McDowell Regional School Rainbows and Butterflies Story Hour On Wednesday, December 12th the Bishop McDowell Regional School Rainbows and Butterflies Story Hour will held at 6:30pm in the Kindergarten Room of the Bishop McDowell Regional School building. Mrs. Dern our first grade teacher will host this hour of storytelling and
activities for Preschool and Kindergarten age children. This program will be
open to Preschool and Kindergarten students of Bishop McDowell Regional School as well as children from St. Albert the Great, St. Basil, and St. Wendelin
Parishes of Preschool and Kindergarten age. If you have any further questions
call the school office at (412) 884 – 5676 and ask for Mr. Grgurich. We look forward to seeing you there!
Bishop McDowell Regional School Annual Poinsettia, Wreath and Centerpiece Sale Bishop McDowell Regional School is holding its Annual Poinsettia, Wreath and Centerpiece Sale. The sale
began on Friday, November 9, 2007. All
orders are due to the school office ASAP.
For additional information call the school office to request an order form. Make
all checks payable to: Bishop McDowell School. Proceeds from this sale benefit Bishop McDowell Regional School. Thank you for your support and have a blessed and happy holiday season. The
pick-up date will follow in a future newsletter.
School
Art Supply Request The school’s art
program is requesting art supplies to be donated for future art lessons. These
supplies include: cotton balls, egg cartons, yogurt containers
with lids and paper towel rolls (wrapping paper rolls, toilet paper
rolls etc.). Your help and kindness is greatly appreciated.
Little
Sisters of the Poor Food Drive Service Project It is with sincere thanks and gratitude that I recognize
the Bishop McDowell Regional School community for their overwhelming generosity
and support of our Little Sisters of the Poor Food Drive. Our original goal was
to collect 300 non-perishable food items. The final count of
non-perishable items was over 600. Everyone is to be commended for such
an outstanding effort and know that you have a made a significant difference in
the lives of those not as fortunate as us during this holiday season. Once
again Bishop McDowell Regional School has truly shown its giving spirit and may
the peace of the Christ child come into your hearts this Christmas season.

Magic Club Reverse Raffle and Dinner
Dance- Applications for memberships are now being accepted. Memberships make
great Thank You gifts or Christmas presents. Why not show your
appreciation for that special someone you just don’t know what to buy. Go get a
jump on your holiday shopping. For more information call Janet Grgurich at
(412) 885-1752 to answer any questions you might have about this exciting
evening. If you need an application call the school office and we will send one
home. Don’t be left out, it’s a great evening and can be quite profitable. Reminder
this year’s MAGIC Club Reverse Raffle and Dinner Dance is scheduled for
Saturday, February 16, 2008.
St. Wendelin Church Annual Cookie
Walk Calling All Bakers!
St. Wendelin Church will hold its Annual Cookie Walk on Sunday, December 9, 2007 from 8am – 1pm in the St. Wendelin Parish Center.
We are hoping we can count on you this year as in the past to make this one of
the best Cookie Walks in the area. If you can help by baking your favorite
cookie call the Parish Office at (412) 882 – 1480 to let us know
the kind of cookie (no chocolate chip) and how many dozen you will make.
You may drop off your cookies at the St. Wendelin Parish Center on Saturday, December 8, 2007 from 1pm – 4pm.
Multiple Intelligence
Activity Period On Friday December 7, 2007 the students in grades K – 8 will be participating in their 3rd Multiple
Intelligence Activity period beginning at 1:15pm in the old church area. This time, the focus will be on the Intrapersonal
Intelligence which entails the
capacity to understand oneself, to appreciate one's feelings, fears and
motivations. In Howard Gardner's view it involves having an effective working
model of ourselves, and to be able to use such information to regulate our
lives. The students will be permitted to
dress down on Friday in comfortable clothing (jeans, sweatpants, and gym shoes)
with exception to any clothing that goes against the catholic nature of our
school along with wearing their NEW Gray Bishop McDowell
Spirit T-shirt. As usual Mr. Grgurich deems the right to determine what
is appropriate and what is not.
Giant Eagle Apples for the
Students Program The Giant Eagle Apples for the Students Program began
on Sunday October 28, 2007 and continues until Saturday, March 15, 2008. Again this year, you will not need to send in receipts from Giant
Eagle. All you need to do is be a registered supporter. If you registered last
year, you are automatically registered for this year. If you are not a
registered supporter, it’s very easy to become one. Take a moment to register.
You will need your Giant Eagle Advantage card handy then call 1-800-474-4777.
An automated system will talk you through the process. Our school ID number is
1022. You can also register by visiting the Giant Eagle website at www.gianteagle.com and click on the
Apples for Students icon. Each time registered supporters shop at Giant Eagle
using their Giant Eagle Advantage Card; they earn points for our school. These
points are redeemed for great educational tools. The points are automatically
credited to our school through the Giant Eagle Advantage Card.
Athletic
Board Meeting The Bishop McDowell Regional School Athletic Board will
meet on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at 7pm in the Hough Building down by the Concession Stand area. Board members & parent
representatives are asked to make this meeting a priority.
