Bishop McDowell Regional School 50/50 Holiday Raffle Fundraiser   So far we have sold 600 tickets this means $300.00 to the winner. We need to continue to build the winnings up quickly so it will be enticing to others as we continue to sell.  So get your tickets and money in early.   Don’t hesitate to call the office for more tickets. The drawing will be held on Monday, December 31^st at 11am in the school lobby. Last years winner received $1,059.00, keep selling. A reminder that 10 tickets were attached with the November 16^th parent newsletter, your help in selling all 10 is greatly appreciated.

 

2007 Christmas Musical “Back to Bethlehem” & “This Old Gingerbread House”   Join us on Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at 7pm in the Bishop McDowell Regional School Cafeteria for an evening of drama and singing as the students in Kindergarten through 3^rd Grade present the Christmas Musicals “Back to Bethlehem” & “This Old Gingerbread House” under the direction of our 2nd & 3rd Grade teacher Mrs. Kathy DeFrancesco. Our hope during this evening is to bring the joy and peace of the Christ Child to the hearts of all. We look forward to seeing you!

 

Trim-a-Tree Event/Womansplace, Inc.   The Womansplace strives to end domestic violence through crisis intervention, prevention education, and direct services. Their mission is to support individuals and families exposed to relationship abuse by providing shelter, legal and medical advocacy, and options counseling. The Womansplace seeks to increase victim safety and empower these individuals to begin again. During our Trim-a-Tree event on Friday, December 7^th the Bishop McDowell Regional School community collected presents for the woman and children whose lives have been shattered by domestic violence. This week we will deliver these presents to Fran Trimpey, Development Coordinator for the Womansplace. Once again thank you to the Bishop McDowell Regional School community for your outpouring of generosity.

 

Bishop McDowell Regional School Rainbows and Butterflies Story Hour   On Wednesday, December 12^th the Bishop McDowell Regional School Rainbows and Butterflies Story Hour will be held at 6:30pm in the Kindergarten Room of the Bishop McDowell Regional School building. Mrs. Dern our first grade teacher will host this hour of storytelling and activities for Preschool and Kindergarten age children. This program will be open to Preschool and Kindergarten students of Bishop McDowell Regional School as well as children of St. Albert the Great, St. Basil, and St. Wendelin Parishes of Preschool and Kindergarten age. For any other questions call the school office at (412) 884 – 5676 and ask for Mr. Grgurich.

 

December Computer Café and Activity Alley   On Wednesday, December 12, 2007 the Bishop McDowell Regional School Marketing Committee will continue in it efforts to offer a monthly activity and use of the computer lab in conjunction with the Rainbows and Butterflies Story Hour from 7pm – 8pm. This month family’s activities will be filled with calming activities to help you celebrate Advent. You can watch a video, read a reflection or do an Advent project with your child. See the attached flyer for more information or call the school office at 412-884-5676 and ask to speak with Mr. Grgurich. We look forward to seeing on Wednesday evening December 12^th!

 

December Scrip Orders   The last Scrip Orders for December will be taken on Wednesday, December 12^th  and must be turned into the school office by 10am. Also, there is no guarantee that the Scrip Company will be able to fill these orders placed this late in the month. If you need these certificates before Christmas it would be in your best interest to order earlier in the month. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

2007 Faculty Christmas Luncheon / Student BINGO   On Friday, December 14, 2007 from 11:30am – 12:50pm the Activities Committee has planned a Christmas Luncheon for the administration, faculty and parish staff members. Also during this time the committee has planned a Christmas BINGO for the students in Grades K – 8. In order for both of these events to be successful the committee is requesting the help of any parent who might be available to volunteer (has completed their database application) their services for the Faculty Luncheon or BINGO. Contact Karen Cook at (412) 885 – 0646 if you are able to help volunteer for one or both of these activities.

 

2^nd Nine Weeks Interims   2nd Nine Weeks Interims were sent in the mail this week. If your child receives an interim you must sign and return the form to your child’s teacher. This will indicate to the teacher that you understand your child is having difficulty in a particular subject area. A follow up phone call on the part of you the parent is encouraged for further suggestions to help your child improve their grade.

 

2007 SARRIS Christmas Candy Pick-up   The Sarris Christmas Candy Pick-up is scheduled for Wednesday, December 12, 2007 from 2:30pm – 4pm and 6pm – 7pm in the School Office. If you have any other questions concerning pick-up, contact Kathy Moeslein at (412) 885 – 5628. Once again thank you for your continued support of Bishop McDowell Regional School and Catholic education. 

 

2008 Magic Club   Reverse Raffle and Dinner Dance- Applications for memberships are now being accepted.  Memberships make great Thank You gifts or Christmas presents.  Why not show your appreciation for that special someone you just don’t know what to buy. Go get a jump on your holiday shopping.  For more information call Janet Grgurich at (412) 885-1752 to answer any questions you might have about this exciting evening. If you need an application call the school office and we will send one home. Don’t be left out, it’s a great evening and can be quite profitable. Reminder this year’s MAGIC Club Reverse Raffle and Dinner Dance is scheduled for Saturday, February 16, 2008. See the attached application to get in on the fun.

 

Pizza Hut Fundraiser Day   On Thursday, December 13^th at the Brentwood Towne Center Pizza Hut, Bishop McDowell Regional School will have a fundraiser day. Just bring the coupons that were attached with the November 16^th parent newsletter to Pizza Hut that day and Pizza Hut will donate 20% of your purchase to the school. As an added bonus---buy your Pizza Hut certificates at the school or after mass and use them to pay for your pizza that day, you will get credit towards your tuition as well!!! See you on Thursday, December 13^th and come hungry!!

 

December Market Day Pick-up   Market Day Pick up is scheduled for Wednesday, December 12, 2007 from 6pm - 7pm in the Cafeteria of the school building. As always we are in need of volunteers to help on Market Day, consider giving 1or 2-hours. If you would like to volunteer or have any questions call the school office at (412) 884 – 5676.

 

BMcD Christmas Band Concert   On Thursday, December 13, 2007 the students in the Bishop McDowell Regional School Instrumental Band program will perform their Christmas Concert on the main floor of the school building beginning at 7pm. This year’s band members are: Nicholas Rubenstein, Michael Mankos, Madison Gallucci, Jena Grgurich, Zachary McGuire, Nina Baker, Alexia Facchiano, Giavanna Facchiano, Amanda Henning, Raeleen Kwiatkowski and Josh McGuire. These students’ have spent a great deal of time preparing for this program so take time to support our Instrumental Band program by attending their performance. We look forward to seeing you there!
